At 6 o'clock this morning, the three co-founders and CEOs of OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle, Sam Altman, Masayoshi Son, and Larry Ellison, attended Trump's live press conference.
Trump announced that SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle will jointly establish a new AI company, Stargate, and will invest US$500 billion in the next four years. US$100 billion will be invested immediately to build AI infrastructure.
The era of AI surge has officially begun!
OpenAI has announced this news on its official website. The following is the original text.
Project Stargate is a newly established company that plans to invest $500 billion over the next four years to build new AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States. We will invest $100 billion immediately.
This infrastructure will ensure U.S. leadership in AI, create hundreds of thousands of American jobs, and bring significant economic benefits to the world. The program will not only support the reindustrialization of the United States but will also provide the United States and its allies with strategic capabilities to ensure national security.
Stargate’s initial equity investors include SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle and MGX. SoftBank and OpenAI are the main partners of Stargate. SoftBank is responsible for finance, OpenAI is responsible for operations, and Masayoshi Son will serve as chairman.
Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle and OpenAI are key initial technology partners in the project. Currently, construction has begun in Texas, and we are evaluating potential sites across the country to finalize agreements for additional campuses.
As part of the Stargate project, Oracle, NVIDIA and OpenAI will work closely to build and operate this computing system. This continues the deep collaboration between OpenAI and NVIDIA dating back to 2016, as well as the newer partnership between OpenAI and Oracle.
This project also continues OpenAI’s existing partnership with Microsoft. OpenAI will continue to increase its use of Azure as the collaboration with Microsoft continues to advance, leveraging this additional computing power to train leading models and deliver outstanding products and services.
We all look forward to continuing to build and develop AI—especially AI General Intelligence (AGI)—for the benefit of all humanity. We believe this step is the key to a goal that will enable creative people to explore how AI can be used to enhance human society.
