Cannes mayor targets 2027 French presidential election, pushing city to adopt cryptocurrency payments

PANews reported on January 15 that according to Leviathan News, Cannes Mayor David Lisnard is targeting the 2027 French presidential election, pushing the city to adopt cryptocurrency payments, and plans to make EthCC (Ethereum Community Conference) a central issue next summer.

According to a LinkedIn post shared by Lisnard, Lisnard said: “As part of our Web3 strategy, we will encourage and specifically train Cannes merchants to integrate cryptocurrencies for payments. Cannes will be open from June 30 to July 3, 2025. The 8th Ethereum Society will be held on District Conference (EthCC), the largest annual event for the Ethereum blockchain in Europe. This means that a large number of potential customers who are accustomed to paying with cryptocurrencies will come to our city. We will provide EthCC attendees with a ‘crypto. Currency Friendly' Merchant Map, updated regularly and published publicly."
