04/11/2025·18DPANews April 11th news, according to Cointelegraph, cybersecurity personnel discovered the latest threat. Attackers targeting Atomic wallets and Exodus wallet users are uploading malware packages to online code repositories with the intention of stealing cryptocurrency private keys. ReversingLabs security researchers noted that the exploit implemented an attack by hiding malicious code in seemingly legitimate npm packages, which are widely used by software developers.
The malware package locks locally installed Atomic wallet and Exodus wallet files by installing patches, overwrites the original files to tamper with the user interface, and induces uninformed victims to transfer the cryptocurrency to the scam address. As the cryptocurrency industry continues to play cat and mouse games with hackers, software supply chain attacks are becoming a new threat carrier for coin holders - attackers use increasingly complex detection methods to try to steal user funds.
